[Construction Section 56]
Technical use of electricity
Electricity is one of the methods of energy transport. Thus, today the entire lighting, most household appliances and the entire electronics and computer technology with electrical energy. With electric drive cars are used as environmentally-friendly alternative to conventional petrol propagated companions. Even medical equipment, X-ray apparatus on the MRI to be a dentist drill with electrical energy.
Electrical energy is mostly in central power plants and the electricity network to households. For ecological reasons, but also increasingly decentralized electric energy conversion, such as using photovoltaic plants on private roofs, promoted.
Key institutions such as banks, government agencies and hospitals, are equipped with emergency power supplies, so that even in a power outage electrical energy is available. Is a permanent connection to the electricity grid is not possible, such as in automobiles or mobile devices, so must the electrical energy either directly or cached in the device are generated (for example, by means of solar cells for small calculators, or using fuel cells). A direct storage of electrical energy in a large scale is currently available only through conversion into another form of energy, such as batteries or using even larger scale, for example, in pumped storage power plants. It is for smaller amounts of energy, capacitors and inductors.
The colloquial expression, which called ELECTRICITY CONSUME, is not totally technically correct, since the current, which flows into a device, even flows out again. In fact, it is the usual household electricity so that the electrons in the head just a small piece of wiggle back and forth, without actually a significant number of electrons out of the pipe flows into the device. What actually goes is electrical energy. This is not consumed, as the colloquial has been established, but is transformed, for example, into mechanical energy (motor), thermal energy (hair dryer) and chemical energy (such as the charging of cell phone batteries). The work is carried out (the product of voltage, amperage, and time) is called by an electricity meter determined. Therefore, the power consumption in the energy unit kilowatt hour, and not in the power unit ampere counted.
In addition to the energy supply of electrical power plays for the technical communication is an essential role. So the telephone network is based at least on the local loop to todays electrical signal transmission. This also applies to modern data transmission technologies like DSL. However, the actual telephone network now increasingly converted to glass fibre. Also on electrical signals based cable television.
The communication is based on electromagnetic waves, not directly to electricity, but the transmission and reception of the waves is in principle only on electrical installations.
