[Construction – Section 24] FIRESTOP PILLOWS It is also a physical impossibility to prevent smoke migration through the interior of a cable bundle, if the bundle is not opened up and sealed on the inside during the installation of any fire stop, regardless of whether the fire is intumescent stop or not. No intumescent can be expected to spread between multiple layers of cables, from the outside towards the inside. If viewed in plan view, each cable represents a circle. In a bundle, as cables are in contact, there are necessarily empty spaces between cables, which invite smoke and heat transfer. An intumescent fire stop may reach somewhat into the first layer of cables but to push beyond this takes more force than can be reasonably expected to be generated through an intumescing process. Theoretically, after one calculates the compression rate to determine just how many pillows should be installed, then one has to install the mesh, or grating, or grid, then the pillows. The product is basically intumescent foam rubber. FIRE DOORS Fire doors are a type of door, or closure used as a passive fire protection item within buildings to prevent the spread of fire. It is usually the only means of allowing people to pass through a wall fire-resistance rated assembly. Fire doors are made of a combination of materials, such as: steel, gypsum as an endothermic and fill vermiculite boards. Together, these components form a system which holds the rating. Apart from the door leaf, there is the doorframe, the door hardware and the structure that holds the fire door assembly in place. Door Ware Door hardware also includes: manual or automatic closing devices, locks, latches and hinges also.
